Description
Welcome to "Female sexual problems: Not just in your head"!Sexual health is directly related to the quality of life. Unfortunately, female sexual dysfunction is not addressed at a high rate due to the lack of knowledge within the healthcare community and general public. According to studies, 20% of American woman have female sexual dysfunction. A part of good sexual health is quality information and education on sex and sexuality. Are you currently or in the past experience sexual problems? Are you interested in sexual health and/or women’s healthcare topics? Are you interested in sexual wellness for women? If so, this is the right course!!!About the course:In this course the meaning of sexual health and female sexual dysfunction will be described. People have different views about sex and sexuality. Some people are not comfortable discussing sexual problems and may be unaware of the treatment options. Certain biases and/or beliefs may lead to barriers. Barriers prevent the identification and treatment of female sexual dysfunction. Awareness and education are the keys in breaking through these barriers. Understanding the female sexual response and how the woman’s body work is important in understanding female sexual dysfunction. In the presentation various types of female sexual dysfunction (i.e. desire, arousal, orgasm) and treatments will be described. There is a process in the diagnosis of female sexual dysfunction. Participants will gain knowledge in special diagnostic tools that can be utilized to help diagnose female sexual dysfunction. Today there are treatments available for female sexual dysfunction. There are non-medical, medical, and complementary treatment options available for female sexual dysfunction. Therapeutic treatment options such as cognitive behavioral therapy will be briefly described. There are drugs on the market that are FDA approved to treat female sexual dysfunction and have been proven to improve female sexual function. These medications including side effects will be described. Today people are utilizing herbs and supplements to treat certain conditions without the direction of a healthcare provider; which could be pretty risky. Regardless, women need all available treatment options, especially if they want to avoid potential side effects of medications. Complementary treatment options will be described. Complementary treatment options are not without risk and will be described. The goal is to educate and bring awareness. This course will provide the tools that you need in understanding female sexual response, female sexual dysfunction, risk factors, and treatment options. Enjoy the course!Best regards, Dr. Monica Maldonado, WHNP-BC
