Description
English Language Arts Complete: Grammar 6-8th is a middle school level grammar course designed to ease the overwhelm of learning online. As a former English Language Arts teacher and SAT tutor, I was inspired to create this course after being fed up with the failures of our education system. I wanted to design a course that allows students to learn grammar skills in digestible bites and a logical order.
This course includes
Lectures from a certified teacher of K-12 Language Arts/English
Lectures for Common Core Standards (US school standards)
Practice activities within each section
Recommended resources for further practice
Downloadable Speaker Notes to help follow along with the lectures.
Downloadable Answer Key/ Resources document so you are never left without feedback in your activities.
Minimalist design to prevent overwhelm
Opportunities to provide feedback
Access to my YouTube Channel for tips, tricks, and updates on future courses.
Downfalls of Learning in a Classroom
Mainstream education has it’s downfalls. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, classrooms and curriculum were not up to the standards we should expect for students.
Quality education is difficult to get with
Overcrowded Classrooms- one teacher to thirty students does not provide time to answer everyone’s questions and teach the material.
Time Constraints- Teaching grammar, writing, AND reading in the span of 55 minutes(120 minutes if block scheduling) over the course of 180 school year IS NOT ENOUGH TIME! English education is extensive and with time constraints, teachers have to decide the most vital topics to teach, which results in rushing/skipping over topics that are vital to understanding. Not only are teachers expected to teach grammar, they are expected to teach reading and writing.
Burnt-out Teachers- On top of overseeing 30 students in a tiny classroom and teach within 55 minutes(not counting the lost time from late students, discipline, and checking over previous assignments) teachers are required to attend after school meetings, grade assignments, write up lesson plans, supervise clubs/sports, and attend professional development courses when they aren’t in the classroom teaching. A burnt out teacher is not a good teacher. Do you really want your education to falter.
Distractions- There are so many distractions in a classroom, from disruptive students, to intercom announcements, to COVID anxiety. Distractions prevent learning.
Benefits of Online Learning
Flexibility-Learning online can be done on your own time, to work with your schedule
Controlled Environment-You control where you learn. Throw in some headphones to block out any noise if needed. You aren’t dictated by school rules.
Ability to Review- Review material, pause, and rewind as many times as you want. You control your learning.
If You are a Parent of a Middle School Student
This course covers all of the grammar standards required to be met by the end of a student’s middle school career.
This course is perfect for homeschooling. Skip the overwhelm of trying to figure out what to teach while homeschooling your child. I use my experience as a teacher to create lessons that cover the standards that regular schools require students to learn.
If You are a Parent of a High School Student
This course has essential skills that are tested on the reading and writing sections of college entrance exams.
If You are an ELL/ESL Student
This course is a great review of grammar skills if you are at the intermediate level or higher.
