DesignLife
DesignLife – New Features
Time Step Load Sequencing from a file
The Time Step Load Provider now has an option to define the sequencing and scaling of time steps from a configuration file. The new feature is available by use of the SequenceFile property or the load mapping graphical interface.
Multi-PSD loading for spot welds
The use of multi-PSD loading for spot weld vibration-based analyses has been enabled.
DesignLife – Enhancements
Loads Reconstruction: Strain InputTestInfo in Outputs
The Loads Reconstruction glyph includes some of the InputTestInfo metadata (TestName, Extension and Path) from the time series at its Measured Strain input pad in all three of its outputs.
Walker Mean Stress Correction in Thermal SN Analysis
Walker Mean Stress Correction has been enabled for SN thermal analysis with SN Multi-Temperature curve materials.
Walker Mean Stress Correction in EN Analysis
Walker Mean Stress Correction has also been enabled for EN analysis with standard EN or EN MultiTemperature Curve materials.
M Factor Values Outside the Materials Manager’s Limits
If the M factor properties of an SN material (M1, M2, M3, M4) are given values outside the limits imposed by the Materials Manager (by turning off the Limit Checking feature), any values within the wider range -0.999 ≤ M ≤ 0.999 are now accepted by the CAE Fatigue glyph.
FEReader Glyph – new option to output node coordinates to the FE Data Table
A new boolean property has been added – WriteNodalCoordinatesToFEData. If set to True (default=False), nodal coordinate columns are written with the results data (output from the FE Data pad)
Modal Coordinate Input: Support for .MCF Format Changes
The Modal Coordinate Input glyph recognises the option in Ansys .mcf files to include complex-valued data as amplitude & phase. Such data is converted to real & imaginary parts in the glyph’s output. An .mcf file’s normalization option (Mass or Unity) is indicated in the output’s metadata.
FE Display and ODS Display Animation: Export to File
Animation sequences that have been played using the Animation dialog of the FE Display or ODS Display glyphs may now be exported to .gif files, allowing the animations to be displayed outside nCode.
GlyphWorks
GlyphWorks – New Features
Electric Power Glyph
A new glyph has been developed called ElectricPower that calculates electric and mechanical power from measured current, voltages, rotational speed and torque parameters. It will be used in electrification applications and more specifically when one needs to calculate the efficiency of an electric motor.
GlyphWorks – Enhancements
Reverse Palette option in Surface Description
The selected colour palette can now have the contour colours reversed in Surface Description displays, eg a palette with colours which change from blue for the lowest value to red for the highest can be reversed so that blue is used for the highest values and red for the lowest.
Palette selection and reversal in Histogram Display
Different colour palettes can now be selected for the contour colours, and there is an option to reverse the colours in the selected palette.
Palette selection and reversal in XYZ Display
Different colour palettes can now be selected for the contour colours, and there is an option to reverse the colours in the selected palette.
Improved cursor appearance in XY Display
The appearance of the cursors in the XY Display can now be altered by changing the line width, colour, transparency, and style (solid, dash or dot). By default, the cursors are now made more visible using a line width of three, the colour is set to black and the transparency is zero.
Cursor readout in Surface Description
The Surface Description display can now show a cursor readout as the mouse pointer is moved over Descriptionted data.
Contour isolines in Surface Description
The Surface Description display can now optionally display contour isolines
Glyph Property Default Changes
The default values of 5 properties across 4 different glyphs have been changed to offer a better value to make the user’s life easier. These changes are:
– Test Combination Glyph ChanNumMethod property default changed to Append from Preserve
– Test Splitter Glyph ErrorIfAllPass and ErrorIfAllFail properties default changed to False from True
– MultiColumnToTimeSeries Glyph Method property default changed to Resample from Split
– TimeSeriesToMultiColumn Glyph Method property default changed to XYPair from Reconstruct
Improved string manipulation in Metadata Calculator
The Metadata Calculator glyph function ‘split’ can now use a negative index number to access subsections of a string by counting backwards from the right. There is also a new ‘count’ function to find out how many times one string occurs within a larger string.
Support for MS Office 2016, 2019 and 365
nCode 21.1 has been tested and is supported on MS Office 2016, 2019 and 365. This includes the Excel Input glyph, which supports MS Office 32 bit and 64 bit versions. See the glyph help for more details.
Support for Python 3.8
Support for Python 2.7 has now been dropped due to it now being unsupported. The existing support for Python 3.6 has been enhanced with the additional support for Python 3.8. Python 3.8 becomes the default version set by the PythonVersion preference.
MATLAB Support – MATLAB R2021a
Matlab 2021a is now supported in the Matlab scripting glyph
Improved Search in the help
There is a new Search capability in the HTML help. By default, the search will be across the whole documentation but the user can use filters to search only in some specific areas.

ANSYS 2021 R1 nCode DesignLifeprovides a suite of engineering software products in a single desktop environment. This is a specific version of DesignLife that is available through the ANSYS Partner Solutions Program and uses ANSYS GridWorks Units licensing. DesignLife is part of a wider range of nCode software products from HBM.
The four main product components of nCode are GlyphWorks, for graphical data processing, VibeSys, for acoustics and vibration analysis, DesignLife, for CAE fatigue analysis applications, and Automation Personal Edition, for data storage and analysis. Results and materials data from simulations within Workbench can be directly accessed by DesignLife. This provides an unparalleled combination of ease of use and powerful fatigue analysis for ANSYS users.
Fatigue of Welds using nCode DesignLife
Founded in 1970, ANSYSemploys nearly 3,000 professionals, many of whom are expert M.S. and Ph.D.-level engineers in finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, electronics, semiconductors, embedded software and design optimization. Our exceptional staff is passionate about pushing the limits of world-class simulation technology so our customers can turn their design concepts into successful, innovative products faster and at lower cost. As a measure of our success in attaining these goals, ANSYS has been recognized as one of the world’s most innovative companies by prestigious publications such as Bloomberg Businessweek and FORTUNE magazines.
