JAMES COULTHARD, "SNEAKY MATH FOR KIDS AND OTHER READERS: SNEAKY WAYS OF DOING MENTAL ARITHMETIC, MENTAL ALGEBRA, NUMBER THEORY, TRIGONOMETRY, AND CALCULUS"

More Advanced Math is usually just Less Advanced Math done in a sneaky way. Mental Math is particularly important in this regard, and there are a lot of sneaky tricks that are designed to help one keep track of where one is in a mathematical problem.
Experience doing Math in your head is of value even when you write down the Math that you do. The book begins by looking at ways of doing Arithmetic in your head, and then goes on to ways of doing Algebra in your head. We also do a bit of Number Theory for kids, before going on to look at the Pythagorean Theorem and the sine and cosine functions of Trigonometry.
A simplified approach to Calculus is used which focusses non the problem of Planetary Motion. We consider the problem for which Newton developed Calculus, which involves finding an explanation for the underlying Laws of Motion which give rise to the Laws of Planetary Motion that were discovered by Kepler.
The book concludes with some more Number Theory, concluding with my own proof of Quadratic Reciprocity.
A lot of what is done in the Teaching of Mathematics is done because that is the way it was done in the past. Much of the rest of what is done is done to show off how advanced we are, and intimidate anyone who would criticize what we do. It would be of value to try something different, without having the power to force this different approach on others. I certainly do not have the power to force my view of Mathematics Education on anyone, but it is my hope that my approach will be of value to a lot of people.
